Introducing ACSIAL® - Applied Color Science Imaging Algorithm Library

ACSIAL software

August 10, 2009 - Applied Color Science is pleased to announce a new software toolkit designed to accelerate and simplify the transformation from RAW digital images to high quality color pictures. ACSIAL provides a powerful set of imaging pipeline algorithms that enable the user to input unprocessed Bayer-pattern RAW images from a variety of image capture platforms and formats and apply each operation in an imaging pipeline step-by-step so that  resulting image quality can be evaluated and improved. The figure below gives a block diagram of the steps involved in a typical image processing pipeline supported by ACSIAL.

Pixel Defect Correction - ACSIAL offers a variety of pixel defect correction algorithms ranging from simple median filtering to more sophisticated color cluster defect  remediation.

Fixed Pattern Noise Correction - ACSIAL provides the tools to accurately characterize FPN from your sensor and correct or reduce it in ways that preserve maximum image detail.

Bayer De-Mosaic - The user can choose from a variety of De-Bayer techniques ranging from simple nearest neighbor to hue-preserving and content-adaptive approaches.

Color Correction - ACSi has developed an automated process for determining optimal  color correction matrix coefficients that takes the guesswork out of CC matrix development.

Gamma - ACSIAL provides the standard ITU REC 709 gamma function for input images as well as the ability to incorporate custom 'perceptual' gamma LUTs .

Sharpening/Image Filtering - ACSIAL incorporates a library of sharpening and smoothing functions to enhance output image quality.

Color Space Conversion - ACSIAL provides a variety of image output formats (JPG, BMP, TIF, etc.)

ACSIAL Image Evaluation Tools -

In addition to the image processing tools described above, ACSIAL includes the following  image and color evaluation tools:

- Pixel Average and Standard Deviation (Full image or Region of Interest (ROI))

- Histogram function  (Full RGB or separate color planes) (Full Image or ROI)

- VectorScope Plots: R-Y, B-Y

- Line Intensity plots

- Temporal Noise plots

ACSIAL is currently designed for Windows 2000, XP and Vista
